With an emphasis on school autonomy, coupled with high expectations and transparent and clear communication, Education One is an effective and supportive charter school authorizer and partner.
Due to COVID-19, however, policies and procedures for monitoring and oversight during the 2020-2021 school year will be adjusted in order to ensure the health and safety of all staff, students, and families. More information regarding our processes for Monitoring and Oversight During COVID-19 can be found below. Education One will follow our COVID-19 specific protocol through December 31, 2020. At that time, the Education One team will re-assess the need for a pandemic specific protocol, based on guidance from local health officials and federal CDC guidelines, as well as all relevant data and statistics, in order to drive decisions for monitoring and oversight during the second half of the school year.
Mid-Month Accountability Visits During COVID-19: Mid-Month Accountability Visits will take place remotely via Zoom on a monthly basis. School leadership teams will drive the basis of these meetings based on individual school needs. Tier II and III schools focus will be on the specific goals set forth in their School Improvement or Emergency Accountability Plans. Mid-month visits that occur after an assessment window will be in person to complete the analysis of student data and next steps. The Assistant Director of Accountability will self-screen prior to this visit and wear a mask during the meeting if social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. In-person visits will be limited to 1-2 members of the school leadership team.
Quarterly EL/SPED Compliance Visits During COVID-19: English Learner and Special Education Quarterly Compliance Visits will take place via Zoom during the first half of the 2020-2021 school year. The Education One Compliance Officer will contact school EL/SPED staff to schedule a Zoom meeting prior to the September and November Compliance Visits.
Pre-Site Visit During COVID-19: Members of the Education One team will self-screen prior to each in-person visit. The Education One team will limit the number of visitors coming to the school, when possible. These visits will be spaced appropriately throughout the month to limit county to county exposure and may or may not take place around the school’s scheduled board meeting date. Schools will be responsible for completing a COVID-19 questionnaire, which will be provided by Education One, prior to the scheduled visit. School Leaders will also be responsible for creating a site-visit schedule prior to the visit.
On- Site Visit During COVID-19: The on-site visit will follow a schedule created by the School Leader so that Education One can observe core content classrooms only. During this site visit the Education One team will wear a mask. Interactions with students will be limited, and the team will follow the CDC social distancing guidelines when in classrooms and shared spaces. In addition, the Education One team will follow all school guidelines specific to the school’s planned response to COVID-19.
Debrief During COVID-19: The school will be responsible for providing a space that allows for social distancing. The debrief will be limited to 1-2 members of the school leadership team, as well as 1-2 members of the Education One team.
Board Meetings During COVID-19: For the first half of the school year, the Education One team will attend all board meetings via Zoom. School leaders will be responsible for ensuring that computer access is available to the board during all meetings, and that board packets are disseminated to the Education One team electronically, prior to all meetings
In the event that our schools utilize remote learning, the additional monitoring and oversight protocols are in place.
Synchronous Instruction: Education One defines virtual synchronous instruction as learning that takes place in real-time with a group of students that can be done online via live webinars or digital classrooms. The Education One team will be provided access to these digital classrooms to observe instruction on the scheduled site visit day. The school leadership team will provide a schedule and digitally observe classrooms at the same time for 10-15 minutes.
Asynchronous Instruction: Education One defines virtual asynchronous instruction as learning that takes place on the students time and lessons are pre-recorded. The Education One team will be provided access to these digital classrooms to observe instruction by the scheduled site visit day. The school leadership team will provide a schedule and digitally observe the same classrooms for 10-15 minutes by the scheduled site visit day.
Debrief: Education One will schedule a virtual meeting with the school’s leadership team on the scheduled site visit day. If the school implements synchronous instruction, the debrief will take place after classroom observations are completed. The debrief will focus on the instructional best practices found in the school’s Accountability Plan Performance Framework. Attendance percentages will also be collected during this time.
